SC Freiburg vs Hertha Berlin Prediction (01.04.2023)

On Saturday afternoon, Freiburg will look to consolidate a top-four spot in the Bundesliga as they host struggling Hertha Berlin at the Europa-Park Stadion.

The team from the Black Forest currently sit in fourth place, a point ahead of fifth-place RB Leipzig and two points behind third-place Union Berlin in the race for the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga.

Christian Streich’s team is unbeaten in their last six matches in the German top flight, having recorded three wins and three draws. However, their recent games have been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five matches.

Freiburg has an excellent recent record on home soil in the Bundesliga, as they are unbeaten in 11 home league matches, having recorded eight victories in the run. They have also scored at least two goals in seven of their last nine home games in the Bundesliga.

The team from the German capital currently sit in the relegation play-off spot in the Bundesliga, only outside the automatic relegation zone courtesy of a superior goal difference to 17th place Schalke.

A 3-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Hoffenheim last time out continued a poor recent run of league form for the visitors, who have now lost seven of their last ten league games. A common theme of those recent defeats has been conceding too many goals, as Hertha has conceded at least two goals in all seven recent league losses.

Hertha has been atrocious away from the capital, as they are winless in nine away matches in the Bundesliga, having suffered eight straight defeats on their travels.

Freiburg could be without Philipp Lienhart and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh through muscle and knee injuries. Hertha Berlin looks set to be without Jean-Paul Boetius, Chidera Ejuke and Kelian Nsona through various injuries.

This game pits a solid home team against a travel-sick outfit. It is hard to back anything but the home win, so I am backing a Freiburg victory.
