FC Augsburg - Borussia Monchengladbach Tip 19-08-2023

On Saturday afternoon, Augsburg hosts Monchengladbach at the WWK Arena in gameweek one of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season.

The home side will be looking to enjoy a somewhat more comfortable campaign in the Bundesliga this season after finishing just a point clear of the relegation play-off spot last season. A poor end-of-season run of form, including three straight defeats in the Bundesliga, played a big part in part in Augsburg's close shave with the bottom three.

At the end of last season in the Bundesliga, one of the major issues for Augsburg was conceding too many goals, as the Fuggerstadter has conceded at least two goals in six of their previous nine matches in the German top flight.

Augsburg’s home form needs to improve this season, as they have won just one of their previous five matches on home soil in the German top flight. Their recent league matches in front of their own fans have been relatively low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last ten games.

The Foals finished in the limbo of tenth place in the Bundesliga last season, seven points adrift of the European spots and ten points ahead of the relegation play-off spot. Their end-of-season form summed up their inconsistent form, as the visitors recorded just two wins in their final seven league matches.

Monchengladbach have been poor travellers of late in the Bundesliga, as they were winless in their final eight away games in the German top flight. Their away matches in the league have been high-scoring, though, with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last nine matches away from home.

It's been all change at Monchengladbach over the summer, with arguably the biggest change in the dugout after the appointment of Gerardo Seoane as head coach.

This is a difficult one to predict. It could go either way. However, the bet I am backing is for over 2.5 goals to be scored, as both teams were involved in high-scoring games towards the end of the season.
