On Saturday afternoon, Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will look to move a step closer to the German top-flight title as they travel to Union Berlin.
Union looking to build on recent resultsThe boys from Berlin have taken four points from their last two Bundesliga outings. They built on a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen by picking up a highly creditable 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Union have still only won one of their previous five matches in the German top-flight. They have also failed to score in three of their last four outings.
However, the recent decent results have moved Union nine points clear of the league’s bottom three.
The win over Werder Bremen continued a solid recent home run of form for Union in the Bundesliga, as they have won five of the last seven home matches.
One negative for Union is that they have only ever recorded one victory over Bayer Leverkusen in 11 competitive meetings.
Bayer has the title within touching distanceDie Werkself came back from a goal down late on to record a 2-1 home win over Hoffenheim in their last Bundesliga outing. The win means that Xabi Alonso’s team is unbeaten in the German top flight this season, winning 23 of their 27 Bundesliga game.
Bayer are now within touching distance of claiming the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history. They are 13 points clear of second-place reigning champions Bayern Munich, with just seven league games remaining.
Leverkusen have been outstanding on their travels in the German top flight, as they have won 11 of their 13 away games, including the last six on the road.
What am I backing?Although Union have shown signs of a revival of late, Bayer are in a rich vein of form. Therefore, the bet I am backing is the away victory to move the visitors closer to that maiden Bundesliga title.
