Vancouver Whitecaps vs Colorado Rapids Prediction (02.06.2024)

With the majority of top leagues across Europe coming to an end, it’s time for Major League Soccer to step up. There are plenty of reasons why this campaign has the potential to be incredibly exciting but beyond that, it’s just been nice to see the continued growth and development of the game in North America. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Vancouver Whitecaps and Colorado Rapids.

Vancouver did a solid job of getting into the playoffs with a sixth place finish in the Western Conference. From there, they earned a meeting with Los Angeles in the first round, but they bowed out in pretty convincing fashion. Despite such a setback, they’ve still got the kind of infrastructure necessary to make some noise in the weeks and months ahead - and we’re intrigued to see how they perform.

Vancouver are making steady progress in their pursuit of another playoff adventure as they currently sit in 6th place in the West. They have won six, drawn four and lost five in their first 15 games, and one of their biggest attributes up to this point has to be their defensive prowess.

Last season, the wooden spoon in the West went to Colorado. The Rapids only managed to win five games all season long and while they do have a few highlight reel players to brag about, that doesn’t mean much when you have no consistency or general ideology to speak of. They have a lot of work to do, and that much is probably an understatement.

So far, so good for Colorado in their pursuit of the playoffs. After 16 games they’ve been able to pick up six wins and four draws, leaving them in 7th place. What they do need to do, though, is get into the rhythm of really being able to kill teams off in order to create some distance with the other chasers.

We’re at the point in the MLS season now where it’s time to start really making some noise, and it feels like these two sides are aware of that. They both have attacking threats and in this game, we expect to see them showcase that. Therefore, we’re going to shoot for over 2.5 goals scored.
