We’re back with the final international break of 2023 as we continue down the road to UEFA Euro 2024. It’s safe to say that things are really starting to heat up in pretty much every group as nations qualify and make their push to reach the playoffs. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an intriguing battle between Wales and Turkey.
Wales Form GuideThe Dragons are beginning to find their feet on the international stage as they have now qualified for three of the last four major tournaments. Their World Cup adventure didn’t quite go to plan but in equal measure, they’ve looked pretty good at the European level. Their Euro 2016 exploits will always be fondly remembered but now, it’s all about showing growth in a post-Gareth Bale landscape.
The Welsh set themselves up for a grandstand finish when they beat Croatia last month, but for whatever reason, they just couldn’t keep that same energy going on the road against Armenia. They fell to a 1-1 draw, leaving them vulnerable heading into the final matchday.
Turkey Form GuideIn the last 16 World Cups, Turkey have only qualified for the final tournament once - finishing in third place. In the Euros, however, they tend to have a bit more luck, having qualified for three of the last four editions. They did only manage to reach the group stage in the last two but at the very least, there’s a clear direction for them as a squad, especially with one of the most intimidating fanbases in world football.
Turkey have been in a pretty comfortable position for quite some time now as a result of their wins over Croatia and Latvia last month. Over the weekend, they took on Germany in a friendly, and they pulled off an impressive 3-2 win.
Match PredictionThis has all the potential in the world to be a really exciting affair with Wales needing a win and Turkey being a really fun team to watch right now. It’s going to be a blood and guts war, and ultimately, we think we’re going to end up with a draw.
