We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Toulouse and Marseille.
Toulouse Form GuideToulouse finished last season with a pretty below-par spot in the Ligue 1 table but alongside that, they were also able to capture the Coupe de France trophy in convincing fashion. That means they have European football to focus on from this month onwards but for the time being, they’ll want to build up some sustainability and credibility in French football’s top tier.
After a 2-1 win over Nice, Toulouse fell to consecutive losses at the hands of Le Havre and Lyon. They did bounce back with a 3-0 win over Clermont and they haven’t lost since, drawing 0-0 with Strasbourg before a narrow 2-1 win over Rennes.
Marseille Form GuideThey may have fallen away in the title race last season, but Marseille still serve as one of the biggest clubs in French football. They have a tremendous fanbase, they have an exciting squad full of real potential, and they come across as a team with ambition. Alas, all of that will be left redundant unless they can make everything click behind the scenes - and with their management.
Marseille went through a turbulent four-week period as they were beaten by Villlarreal, Rennes, PSG, Lille and Benfica, with the former and latter of those defeats coming in the Europa League. They did manage to beat Benfica 1-0 in the reverse fixture, though, going on to defeat them on penalties.
Match PredictionSome fans would argue that these two have let themselves down fairly severely this season but as we reach the last handful of games, the best they can hope to do is edge into the top half. In terms of a prediction, we can see them really going for it, which is why we’re backing over 2.5 goals scored.
