French football is back this weekend with a full slate of fixtures across Ligue 1. There’s plenty to get excited about up and down the top flight and as we enter the last few weeks of February, it’ll be interesting to see who can start to build some momentum ahead of the next few months. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Toulouse and Lille.
Toulouse Form GuideToulouse finished last season with a pretty below-par spot in the Ligue 1 table but alongside that, they were also able to capture the Coupe de France trophy in convincing fashion. That means they have European football to focus on from this month onwards but for the time being, they’ll want to build up some sustainability and credibility in French football’s top tier.
As Toulouse continue on through the season, they’ll consider their main priority to be avoiding a relegation battle. In their last outing, they enjoyed a huge boost as they went on the road to take on Monaco, coming away with a dramatic - and pretty unexpected - 2-1 victory.
Lille Form GuideWe are a few years removed from the heroics of Lille winning Ligue One and ever since then, they haven’t quite been able to sustain the momentum they built for themselves. That doesn’t mean they haven’t got a good base or a good squad - far from it. What it does mean, however, is that they need to start thinking outside of the box if they want to compete with the big boys.
As Lille continue on through the season, they’ll consider their main priority to be getting European qualification. In their last outing, they continued their strong run of form as of late as they won 3-0 against Le Havre, barely breaking a sweat in the process.
Match PredictionThere’s a lot of excitement in the air for the visitors and rightfully so as they continue to string together big wins. Toulouse are coming off the back of a nice result but we don’t think they’ll be able to keep their momentum going here, which is why we’re going to predict a Lille win.
