The Major League Soccer season is in full swing as both conferences begin to plot their route to MLS Cup glory. It’s going to be a long road for them to get there but with the league being as competitive as it’s ever been, there’s a real opportunity for teams to step up and make a name for themselves. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Sporting Kansas City and St Louis City.
Kansas City Form GuideSporting Kansas City tend to fit into the ‘there or thereabouts’ stereotype as a football club. They’re good enough to mix it up in the playoffs, but there are always a handful of teams ready to push past them once we get to the business end. With that being said, they went on a really impressive run in the post-season last year, and that should give them plenty of confidence.
Sporting have been fairly inconsistent recently. They drew with LAFC, then beat San Jose. They lost 3-2 to LA Galaxy, then beat Toronto 3-1. In their last two outings, they drew 3-3 with Portland before an electric game against Miami - ending in a 3-2 defeat.
St Louis Form GuideSt Louis did a tremendous job of topping the Western Conference and although the standard was lower in comparison to the East, they looked calm and composed. In the playoffs, however, they failed to live up to the hype, with their lack of experience really showing against Sporting Kansas City. They lost in back to back games, sending them crashing out of the competition.
St Louis played out three fantastic draws in March - 2-2 with Austin, 3-3 with LA Galaxy and 2-2 with DC. From there, they lost 3-1 to Salt Lake, drew 0-0 with Dallas, and finally got back on the winning trail last weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Austin.
Match PredictionThis one is personal, and for that reason alone, we’re expecting some serious fireworks - especially after what went down in the playoffs last season. Both teams have had inconsistent starts thus far and in our view, the most likely outcome for this one is over 2.5 goals scored.
