Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps will collide this weekend as the Major League Soccer campaign begins to heat up prior to the summer break.
Kansas City Form GuideThey may have won the MLS Cup on two separate occasions, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that Sporting Kansas City aren’t still minnows of some description. They had an average to poor campaign last year and this time around, they’re fighting for a place in the playoffs. It’s already been a tough, hard-fought campaign, and we wonder if they’ve got the legs to make it all the way.
June has been, to put it lightly, chaotic for Sporting. They beat Dallas 2-1 on the 1st of the month before drawing with Vancouver and battering Austin. Then, they fell to a 2-1 loss against Los Angeles, drew 2-2 with LA Galaxy, and surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to Chicago.
Vancouver Form GuideThey’ve certainly been one of the most dominant forces when it comes to Canadian Championships over the course of the last few years, but there’s more out there to be accomplished for Vancouver. They are currently placed in sixth in the Western Conference, but they don’t feel like a viable threat when it comes to going all the way in the playoffs, or even getting particularly close, for that matter.
The Whitecaps looked strong at the start of the month as they demolished Houston 6-2 at home. They went on to draw 1-1 with both Kansas City and Cincinnati, before edging out a dramatic 3-2 win over Los Angeles just a matter of days ago.
Match PredictionDespite neither team having great fortunes at this moment in time, it still feels like a game that is going to deliver some proper entertainment. They’re fairly prolific in front of goal and equally as leaky at the back, and with all of that taken into consideration, we’re going to predict that over 2.5 goals will be scored.
