England vs Slovenia Prediction (25.06.2024)

There's a lot of pressure on England heading into their game with Slovenia, but it's not coming from their position in Group C. They go into the final games in pole position with four points, a win and they go through as group winners regardless of what happens elsewhere. They face Slovenia, a team with two points on the board right now.

It's been nowhere near good enough from England so far. One time favourites to win this tournament, they're now third favourites. Lacking intent and creative spark, England need to be released by manager Gareth Southgate, he has to let his players have more freedom and express themselves. This is a talented squad, and currently, it looks like they're being held back, which is now what we want to see.

A narrow victory over Serbia 1-0 got them on the board, but it wasn't great, especially in the second half. That was followed up with a 1-1 tie against Denmark on Thursday, a worse performance, worse result, and to be honest, England were lucky to come out of that game with a point from it, as they could easily have lost the game with how they played, especially in the second half.

Slovenia have played above expectations in the first two games, with low expectations on them, but they managed a draw in both. It was heartbreak in their last game against Serbia, as they were ahead in injury time, but conceded a last minute goal to end up tying that game 1-1.

In their opening game it was the same outcome and result, as they drew 1-1 with Denmark, giving Slovenia a total of two points on the board right now. They will know England are under pressure, and will feel they can cause them problems with the press, putting England's back line under a bit of pressure. With the third placed teams qualifying, Slovenia know that anything from this game and they could be through to the knockout phase.

England need to be a lot better if they are to go far in this tournament. I don't think the stride forward here will be huge, but I am taking them to perform better and win this game to top Group C and go through as group winners. Slovenia can cause problems, but I think England edge this in the end.
