The UEFA Champions League is back in our lives this week with all 32 clubs involved having two games remaining in their push for the knockouts. There’s a whole lot left to be determined across the next two matchdays and today, we’re going to take a look at what we expect to be a really entertaining clash as Sevilla lock horns with PSV Eindhoven.
Sevilla Form GuideThe kings of the Europa League managed to capture the trophy for a seventh time last season and, to be perfectly honest, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them drop back into the competition again this time around. Alas, their ambitions will be greater than that, as they attempt to reach the knockouts and go on the kind of dark horse run they’ve become famous for in the UEL.
Following on from an opening 1-1 draw with Lens, Sevilla went on the road to face PSV - and picked up another draw. From there, they hosted Arsenal and were left with a 2-1 defeat, before another 2-0 loss at the hands of the Gunners just a few weeks later.
PSV Form GuideWhile PSV Eindhoven weren’t the ones to break Ajax’s stranglehold over the Eredivisie, they certainly put up a great fight as they pushed Feyenoord all the way in the title race and eventually wound up finishing second. Given how hard they worked to get here, you’d have to think they’ll be pretty passionate about doing everything it takes to get through the group.
PSV didn’t exactly get their campaign off to a great start as they fell to a 4-0 defeat courtesy of Arsenal. They proceeded to score two late goals to earn a 2-2 draw with Sevilla and since then, they’ve looked solid, picking up a point against Lens on the road before a 1-0 win at home against the French side.
Match PredictionFor whatever reason, Sevilla have not been able to get going in this campaign - meanwhile, PSV are really starting to come into their own in this group. This isn’t going to be a classic by any stretch, but we do think it ends in a draw, which would be an interesting outcome for both.
