The UEFA Champions League returns to our lives once again this week as we enter the second half of the group stage. At this point, all 32 clubs are well aware of what their objectives are as they prepare for the final three-game stretch. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what is bound to be an electric clash between Arsenal and Sevilla.
Arsenal Form GuideWhile Arsenal came unbelievably close to the Premier League title last season, that isn’t going to be their only major focus this time around. Instead, they’re gearing up for their big return to the Champions League. Mikel Arteta knows how important it is for this club to be back in the big time, and it’ll be really interesting to see how they continue to navigate that ahead of what’s bound to be a long campaign.
Arsenal tore PSV apart on the opening matchday with a 4-0 win to really lay down a marker for the rest of the group. They were then left stunned by a 2-1 defeat against Lens before rebounding with a nice 2-1 victory away to Sevilla.
Sevilla Form GuideThe kings of the Europa League managed to capture the trophy for a seventh time last season and, to be perfectly honest, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them drop back into the competition again this time around. Alas, their ambitions will be greater than that, as they attempt to reach the knockouts and go on the kind of dark horse run they’ve become famous for in the UEL.
Sevilla were left to hold on at times in a 1-1 draw with Lens back in September, before letting a lead slip in a 2-2 draw with PSV. From there, they played host to Arsenal, and they would’ve been disappointed to leave with a 2-1 defeat.
Match PredictionThese two sides can play some fantastic football when called upon and for Sevilla especially, the time is now to try and make a statement. The Gunners are the ones in control but we do think the Spaniards will come forward with real intensity, with the end result being a draw.
