Major League Soccer returns this weekend with a full slate of fixtures as we dive into yet another set of high profile clashes. We’re still in the early stages of the campaign but we’re starting to get a feel for how a few teams are approaching the season, even though there’s still a long way to go. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun game between FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders.
Dallas Form GuideDallas edged their way into the playoffs and finished in seventh spot in the Western Conference - with some arguing they didn’t belong there based on the campaign as a whole. In the playoffs, in all fairness, they did well to take Seattle to a third game in their best of three series - but they came up on the losing end. Now, it’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back.
After defeating San Jose 2-1, Dallas slipped to four losses on the bounce against Montreal, NY Red Bulls, Vancouver and Austin. In their most recent outing, they went on the road to battle St Louis, coming away with a point from a 0-0 draw.
Seattle Form GuideDeath, taxes, Seattle being a threat in Major League Soccer. The Sounders have one of the biggest fanbases in the country and in the Western Conference, they were able to finish in 2nd place - just three points behind St. Louis. They managed to get through a gruelling three-game series with Dallas in the first playoff round, but in the conference semi-finals, they were beaten by Los Angeles FC.
Following a 2-1 loss to Los Angeles, Seattle had to settle for a point in draws with Austin and Colorado. From there, they lost to San Jose and LA Galaxy, before bouncing back in style with an emphatic 5-0 triumph over Montreal.
Match PredictionDallas and Seattle, it’s safe to say, haven’t lived up to the standards they set themselves so far this season. There just doesn’t appear to be any kind of team cohesion and until something changes, they’ll continue to underwhelm. In our view, the likeliest outcome here is under 2.5 goals scored.
