Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Seattle Sounders and Colorado Rapids.
Seattle Form GuideDeath, taxes, Seattle being a threat in Major League Soccer. The Sounders have one of the biggest fanbases in the country and in the Western Conference, they were able to finish in 2nd place - just three points behind St. Louis. They managed to get through a gruelling three-game series with Dallas in the first playoff round, but in the conference semi-finals, they were beaten by Los Angeles FC.
With their game against Philadelphia being postponed due to the weather, Seattle have had to wait quite a while to complete a full game. Their last outing was almost two weeks ago when they played host to Austin, only managing a 0-0 draw.
Colorado Form GuideLast season, the wooden spoon in the West went to Colorado. The Rapids only managed to win five games all season long and while they do have a few highlight reel players to brag about, that doesn’t mean much when you have no consistency or general ideology to speak of. They have a lot of work to do, and that much is an understatement.
Colorado went on the road to battle Real Salt Lake last weekend and, for the most part, we’d say they looked pretty strong. They were calm, confident and composed, picking up a 2-1 win to really boost their confidence.
Match PredictionSeattle have only had two games up to this point in the season and with an opponent like this, it feels like they’re going to do everything in their power to make a statement. Colorado will have their moments, but our big prediction here is over 2.5 goals scored.
