The Major League Soccer season is in full swing as both conferences begin to plot their route to MLS Cup glory. It’s going to be a long road for them to get there but with the league being as competitive as it’s ever been, there’s a real opportunity for teams to step up and make a name for themselves. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes.
LA Galaxy Form GuideOnce upon a time, LA Galaxy were the most feared team in Major League Soccer - but it’s safe to say that those days are long gone. In the present, they’re still in something of a rebuilding phase, with the big focus being on simply getting back into the playoffs. They have a few impact players here and there, but they’re still a bit of a way off where they need and want to be.
Galaxy played out 2-2 and 3-3 classics against Nashville and St Louis respectively last month, and then following those results, they proceeded to defeat Kansas City and Seattle. They did drop a 2-1 loss to LAFC, but they soon got back on track with a 3-1 win against Vancouver.
San Jose Form GuideThe Earthquakes have two MLS Cup triumphs to their name, but you could argue it’s been over two decades since they’ve really been taken seriously as contenders. They crept into the playoffs last year and made a decent account of themselves, and while they may not be the strongest side from top to bottom, there’s a lot of grit and self-belief in this squad.
San Jose dug deep to grind out a big 3-2 win over Seattle last month. That was, however, their only win in their last six games. Alongside that, they’ve also been handed five defeats courtesy of Vancouver, Kansas City, Houston, Austin and, most recently, Colorado.
Match PredictionSan Jose are going to bring the heat here and we fully believe that - but we’re not sure it’s going to be enough against a team that really seems to be firing on all cylinders right now. In terms of an official prediction, we’re going to play it safe and go for an LA Galaxy win.
