Rotherham vs Watford Prediction (17.02.2024)

Bottom of the Championship Rotherham need a miracle if they're to survive this season, and on Saturday they bid for three points when taking on mid table Watford. The away side have dropped a little out of the playoff race after a poor recent run, and need a win to get back on track.

Do I think Rotherham survive this season? No, I don't but I do think there will be weeks when they have a chance to win games, or at least pick up points, and this is one of them. Rock bottom of the table, where they have been for a while, they begin the weekend with 19 points, putting them 14 off Millwall in 21st, the team that the three relegation zone teams are chasing.

To make matters worse for Rotherham, they come here on the back of defeats in their last three games, most recently on Tuesday night, when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Hull. Before that, they were outclassed, losing 3-0 to Leeds and 2-0 to Southampton, the task here is easier though.

One time a team in the playoff race, Watford are now seven points behind sixth placed Coventry, and with quite a few teams between them in the standings, as Watford are in 12th now. I think their chances of getting into the playoffs have pretty much gone, the top half is their best hope for the season now.

It's been a poor recent run that's led to this, Watford have lost their last three league games, lost in the FA Cup before that, and looking further back, they are without a win from their last seven in all competitions, with four defeats and three draws in that period.

Rotherham are a big price here, but I think they can defy that, this is one game they have a chance to get something from, and I think they will. I'll take the home side on the double chance market, covering them to win the game, or it to end in a draw, offering fair value against a struggling Watford side.
