Romania vs Ukraine Prediction (17.06.2024)

Group E at Euro 2024 gets underway on Monday with both games and the first of those is Romania v Ukraine, the one we're covering here. Both these two will fancy their chances of qualification from the groups, but with Belgium in the group, their chances of top spot are not too great. They take each other on here, and should either team win, they'll be in a great position to progress.

I think Romania are coming into this tournament a little under the radar, but I am certainly not underestimating what they are capable of doing. They are a good team, neat and tidy on the ball, and they've bagged some nice wins in recent months which should give them hope of at least making the last 16 stage.

They have played two warm up games, both have ended in draws and they've not scored in either, which is not ideal. But look further back, a win and a draw over Switzerland, the same over Israel, they set a nice standard, and to match up to those means that Romania have a chance of doing well here.

Ukraine are second favourites behind Belgium to win this group, and they've put together some nice performances over the past few months to warrant that. But I'm not sure I fully trust them yet, and they were very disappointing last week in a 3-1 loss away against Poland, a team who I don't rate too highly. The positive is since then, Ukraine have won 4-0 but that was only against lowly Moldova.

If you look a little further back, a draw in Germany, a draw against Italy, and a draw at home to England. But all draws, good results, but they've struggled to truly get over the line against a good side, and I think that is a sign of their overall talent.

I am going to go with an upset here, and I am backing Romania to come out on top and beat Ukraine. There's not too much between these sides I don't think, certainly not as much as the betting suggests, and there's plenty of reasons to think Romania can get one over on Ukraine and take a massive three points.
