Racing Colombes 92 vs Lille Prediction (21.01.2024)

We’re entering the nitty-gritty of the Coupe de France as we approach the round of 32. The majority of clubs left in the competition will feel as if they’ve got a solid chance of going all the way but in cup football, you truly never know what’s around the next corner. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Racing Colombes 92 and Lille.

Racing Club de France Football, formerly known as Racing Colombes 92, are the definition of a ‘wild’ club within the French football system. They are one of the oldest teams in the country and were one of the founding members of Ligue 1. At the same time, they currently ply their trade in the fourth tier, which we’d say makes this run all the more magical.

Racing CFF entered in the seventh round and while US Laon gave them problems, they were able to just about edge past them in a 2-1 win. They proceeded to defeat ten-man Villers Houlgate 3-1, and then in the round of 64, they got past Chambly with another 2-1 win.

We are a few years removed from the heroics of Lille winning Ligue One and ever since then, they haven’t quite been able to sustain the momentum they built for themselves. That doesn’t mean they haven’t got a good base or a good squad - far from it. What it does mean, however, is that they need to start thinking outside of the box if they want to compete with the big boys.

Golden Lion, based in Martinique, would’ve been feeling pretty excited about their trip to take on Lille in the cup. In the end, though, it was the definition of a step too far as they were humbled and battered 12-0 by the top flight side.

The hosts are solid when they want to be and we do think they’re capable of frustrating the visitors for long spells. In equal measure, Lille looked unbelievably calm and confident in the last round, which is one of the reasons why we’re going to back them for the win.
