We kick off the Championship weekend on Friday night, with a game between two teams that are currently inside the bottom four. Rotherham may already be pretty much down, but for Plymouth, the fight is on, they are just one point clear of the relegation zone, and desperately need a turn around in form, as soon as possible.
Rotherham Form GuideWhile not mathematically down, Rotherham are going back to League One. I think we've seen them play with a little more freedom in recent games, coming from the fact they know they're gone. Without pressure, even though they lack quality, I still think they can trouble some sides in this league.
That's exactly what we saw on Monday, as Rotherham won 2-1 at home to Millwall. They've also picked up a point in a draw with Huddersfield in their last three games, with a defeat to Preston in between. The big positive for Rotherham coming here is that they've taken points off Millwall and Huddersfield recently, both teams I think are better than Plymouth.
Plymouth Form GuideAt the time of writing this preview, Plymouth have no manager and I don't think that will change before Friday night. Ian Foster was rightfully dismissed, looking out of his depth and he leaves the team just one point above the relegation zone, with six games left to play starting with this one.
But there's a mountain to climb for whoever takes over. They've lost their last three games, and failed to win any of their last six, taking just one point from those. The most recent was a 1-0 loss at home to Bristol City on Monday, taking Plymouth closer to the drop zone. Goals are also becoming a huge concern, in those last six, Plymouth have failed to score in four of them, and totalled just two goals.
Match PredictionTwo poor sides, but all the pressure is on Plymouth here. Rotherham can play without fear, and given the terrible run Plymouth are on, I will go with The Millers to take something. I will back Rotherham on the double chance market, covering them to win the game or it to end in a draw.
