Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Austin FC and Philadelphia Union.
Austin Form GuideAustin’s success was always going to come in a ‘long term’ kind of format, and while they’ve certainly got a solid fanbase behind them, things didn’t look great on the pitch last season. They finished in 12th place in the West, although it’s worth noting that the conference was pretty weak, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them fare a bit better this time around.
Austin and St Louis played out a really entertaining game last weekend that showcased why both teams are feeling pretty confident heading into the new campaign. They split four goals between them, with the end result being a fun 2-2 draw.
Philadelphia Form GuidePhiladelphia Union have been on the rise over the course of the last few years and we do believe they have the kind of infrastructure necessary to make some more waves this season. Whether or not you believe they have the squad needed to go deep into the playoffs is another matter, but we think they’re going to start off well in the weeks ahead.
Philadelphia went on the road to face Kansas City last weekend and while they did come away with a 1-1 draw, in the grand scheme of things, they’ll probably be a bit disappointed that they didn’t secure the victory they desired.
Match PredictionThis one has the potential to be really interesting with Austin slowly but surely building themselves up as a credible team in the MLS. Alas, we feel as if the visitors just have that little extra something, which is why we’re going to back a Philadelphia win.
