Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain will collide this week in the second leg of their enticing UEFA Champions League tie.

Year in and year out, it’s starting to feel like a foregone conclusion that Bayern Munich will capture the Bundesliga title. With that being said, this season seems to serve as a bit more of a test for them than usual with a handful of clubs chasing them down. Given those stakes, you have to wonder how much of their focus is going to be on the Champions League.

Bayern kickstarted the month of February with three wins over Wolfsburg, Bochum and PSG (1-0). They did slip up in a 3-2 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach, but they returned to winning form with triumphs over Union Berlin and Stuttgart in the last few weeks.

Paris Saint-Germain are easily the best team in French football, but the one problem they’ve always had is their inability to take that next step forward. The European stage is a daunting one but given how much investment they’ve had in years gone by, there really is no excuse for not winning the big one - adding even more pressure to this scintillating affair.

In a bizarre eight-day spell, PSG found themselves on the end of three defeats to Marseille, Monaco and Bayern Munich across three competitions. Since then, though, they’ve gone on the exact opposite kind of run, knocking off Lille, Marseille and Nantes in quick succession.

Pavard is suspended for the visit of PSG with Mazraoui, Neuer and Hernandez all currently listed as injured.

Sanches, Hakimi and Kimpembe are all on the shelf with Neymar confirmed to be out for the remainder of the season.

As much as we expect PSG to put forward a high tempo in this game, we don’t think they have enough in the final third to cause the favourites problems away from home. As such, we’re backing Bayern to secure the win and progress via aggregate.
