The Premier League is back with a full set of midweek fixtures as we return to regularly scheduled programming to end the chaotic month of January. There are so many things up in the air at both ends of the table but hopefully, in the weeks ahead, we’ll start to get a bit more clarity. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Aston Villa Form GuideAston Villa fans are on cloud nine right now. They’re looking good in the Conference League, they are in the top four mix in the Premier League, and their home form is out of this world. The boys from the second city are absolutely flying under Unai Emery and if they can carry this momentum forward, there are a lot of options for the club moving forward.
Villa drew 1-1 with Sheffield United before dropping a disappointing 3-2 loss away to Manchester United. They bounced back with wins over Burnley and Middlesbrough, before two straight 0-0 draws against Everton in the league and Chelsea in the cup.
Newcastle Form GuideWhile things are certainly moving in a positive direction for Newcastle United Football Club, things haven’t been smooth sailing for Eddie Howe’s men this season. They’re currently lingering around mid-table and while there’s still a decent chance they could win silverware between now and the end of May, they need to make some big tactical adjustments.
Newcastle lost three straight to Luton, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool before bouncing back with an important 3-0 win over rivals Sunderland. They went on to lose 3-2 to Manchester City in the league, before rebounding again with a 2-0 win over Fulham in the FA Cup.
Match PredictionOn their day, Newcastle are capable of beating just about anyone - and their opponents tomorrow night know that better than most. Alas, we have to go with the form book here, which is why we’re predicting an Aston Villa win in the second city.
