Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Houston Dynamo and New York Red Bulls.
Houston Form GuideHouston Dynamo had a pretty strong end to the season last year and as such, were able to vault their way to fourth spot. In their three-game series with Real Salt Lake, they were taken to penalties on two occasions. They came out on top, went on to defeat Kansas City in the conference semi-finals, and ultimately ran out of gas in a 2-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC.
Houston and Sporting Kansas City had a really interesting back and forth clash last Sunday but ultimately, neither were able to get the substantial upper hand, leading us down the path of a 1-1 draw.
NY Red Bulls Form GuideFor so long now, New York Red Bulls have been one of the most notable franchises in the MLS - but they’ve never really been able to take that next step. They struggle more than most to live up to the hype surrounding them, but they’ll hope to turn the tide in the weeks and months that lie ahead. In terms of belief, we think their fans have it in abundance, which is a good start.
The Red Bulls went on the road to open up their campaign as they locked horns with Nashville. The game, ultimately, didn’t blow anyone out of the water, as they limped to a 0-0 draw.
Match PredictionBoth of these teams like to play at a high intensity and, in the eyes of most of us, that can only be a good thing. We’re intrigued to see what kind of approach they both take and, in our view, the most likely outcome is over 2.5 goals scored - or, at least, that’s what we hope.
