The Major League Soccer season is in full swing as both conferences begin to plot their route to MLS Cup glory. It’s going to be a long road for them to get there but with the league being as competitive as it’s ever been, there’s a real opportunity for teams to step up and make a name for themselves. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Toronto FC and New England Revolution.
Toronto Form GuideToronto were officially the worst team in the MLS last season with just 22 points from 34 games, featuring just four victories in that time. When you consider what they’ve been able to accomplish across the last decade as a whole, you really do have to wonder what went wrong. In addition, it’s hard not to be curious about what the next few months will look like for them.
Following a nice win over Charlotte, Toronto soon fell to defeat against NYCFC. They did pick up another win over Atlanta a week later, but since then, they’ve suffered three defeats on the bounce courtesy of Kansas City, Vancouver and Charlotte.
New England Form GuideAt one point last year, it seemed as if New England Revolution would be one of the highest ranked teams in the Eastern Conference - and perhaps the entire league. Unfortunately for them, they somewhat ran out of steam down the stretch, eventually finishing 5th. In the first round of the playoffs, they were quickly dispatched in consecutive games by Philadelphia.
Across their last six games, New England have only picked up one win, which was a 1-0 triumph over Charlotte. They also drew 1-1 at home to Chicago and alongside that, they’ve been beaten four times by Toronto (ironically), Atlanta, Cincinnati and NYCFC.
Match PredictionToronto aren’t at their very best just yet, but New England aren’t even close. The boys from the Great White North are clearly the favourites in our view, but we don’t think there are going to be shots flying in from every direction. With that being said, we’re going to back under 2.5 goals scored.
