Major League Soccer returns this weekend with a full slate of fixtures as we dive into yet another set of high profile clashes. We’re still in the early stages of the campaign but we’re starting to get a feel for how a few teams are approaching the season, even though there’s still a long way to go. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun game between New York City FC and New England Revolution.
New York Form GuideAfter years of trying, New York City finally climbed to the top of the mountain back in 2021 and won the MLS Cup. In the present day, though, they seem to have taken their foot off the gas ever so slightly. At this point, their aim is to get back to a point of prominence at the elite level - but we still believe it’s going to take a bit of time for them to get there, especially with their current squad.
Following defeats against St Louis and Portland, New York bounced back with a 2-1 win over Toronto. Since then, though, they’ve failed to win another game, dropping a 1-0 defeat to Cincinnati before 1-1 dares with both Miami and Atlanta.
New England Form GuideAt one point, it seemed as if New England Revolution would be one of the highest ranked teams in the Eastern Conference - and perhaps the entire league. Unfortunately for them, they somewhat ran out of steam down the stretch, eventually finishing 5th. In the first round of the playoffs, they were quickly dispatched in consecutive games by Philadelphia.
New England suffered four straight losses to DC, Toronto, Atlanta and Cincinnati at the start of the season. They went on to pick up a point in a 1-1 draw against Chicago, and then last weekend, they got their first win of the season in a 1-0 triumph over Charlotte.
Match PredictionThese two sides are fairly evenly matched in their own right and it’ll be pretty interesting to see how they fare against one another here. New York and New England both need a big result to start climbing the table, but we don’t think they’ll get it here, with our prediction being a draw.
