Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Atlanta United and New England Revolution.
Atlanta Form GuideAtlanta United were once seen as the most exciting new team in the league but these days, they can’t quite put everything together in a way that guides them to a late playoff run. They did finish 6th in the Eastern Conference which was a pleasant surprise for many, but in the post-season, they were beaten in their best of three by eventual champions Columbus.
After not playing last weekend, Atlanta have had a nice break - and lots of time to reflect on their visit to battle Columbus once again. In that game, a first half Cucho Hernandez goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the champs.
New England Form GuideAt one point, it seemed as if New England Revolution would be one of the highest ranked teams in the Eastern Conference - and perhaps the entire league. Unfortunately for them, they somewhat ran out of steam down the stretch, eventually finishing 5th. In the first round of the playoffs, they were quickly dispatched in consecutive games by Philadelphia.
New England played host to Toronto last weekend and in the 27th minute, Insigne put the Canadian side into the lead. Revolution proceeded to really knock at the door, but they couldn’t break it down, eventually losing 1-0.
Match PredictionBoth of these clubs have impact players that can do some real damage, especially from down the flanks - but neither appears to have the kind of confidence needed to kill the other off right now. With that being said, our official prediction is going to be a draw.
