The League Two playoff race is fascinating, for some teams there are just seven games left, though home side here Morecambe have eight. Both are within touching distance of 7th, Morecambe three points behind, Gillingham just one. That shows just how big this game is on Saturday, it could make or break the playoff chances for one of these.
Morecambe Form GuideJust when Morecambe had a chance to really push for 7th, they've hit a stumbling block, and they've not been great at all in the past couple of weeks. They come here on the back of a three game losing run, but are still just three points off AFC Wimbledon in 7th, so are in with a chance.
But if they want to get into the playoffs, then this three game skid must come to an end as soon as possible. On Sunday, they lost 3-1 away at Salford, before that, a 5-3 loss at Newport and lastly, a 3-1 loss at home to Wrexham, so there is plenty of work to do.
Gillingham Form GuideA little higher in the table and closer to the playoffs than Morecambe, you will find Gillingham, but they also come into this game on the back of a poor run of form, which is really harming their chances. With two wins and two draws, they are without a win from their last four games.
Last weekend, they drew 1-1 at home to Grimsby, a disappointing result, and their other draw was 1-1 at home to Tranmere, another one they will be disappointed with. Losses in this recent period have been 2-0 away at AFC Wimbledon and 2-0 away at Barrow, two teams above them and currently in the playoffs.
Match PredictionI've got reservations about both of these teams with the form they are in, but much more around Morecambe, who have really fell off a cliff recently. For that reason, I'll give Gillingham one final chance here, I think they can take what would be a very important three points from this one.
