We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Brest and Monaco.
Brest Form GuideStade Brestois 29 were not a million miles away from slipping into the relegation picture last season, and that’s worth remembering when you take a look at just how well they’ve looked thus far. Sure, there’s a bigger argument to be had about the state of the top flight as a whole, but Brest are looking like the kind of team who could really cause some problems in the title hunt for years to come.
Following a 1-0 win over Le Havre, Brest fell to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of Lens. They managed to earn a point at home to Lille before wins over Lorient and Metz, but in their latest outing away to Lyon, they were dealt a blow in the form of a 4-3 defeat.
Monaco Form GuideMonaco serve as an ever-present member of the French elite when it comes to the beautiful game and so far this season, they’re making a real effort to prove why they should be viewed as such. They are starting to redefine themselves as an exciting entity at this level and while there’s still a long way to go, there are plenty of reasons to believe that the future is bright.
Across their last six games, Monaco have continued to avoid defeat across a range of difficult fixtures. They’ve picked up a point in draws with PSG and Lorient, and alongside that, they’ve managed to defeat Lens, Lorient, Metz and Rennes.
Match PredictionWhile both of these teams are well aware of the fact that the title is slipping away, that doesn’t mean they can’t give it a really good go between now and the end of the season. This one is going to be really competitive, and our prediction is under 2.5 goals scored - but we do still think it’ll be entertaining.
