Monaco and Auxerre will go head to head this week as Ligue 1 fans are treated to some Wednesday night action.
Monaco Form GuideIt’s safe to say that Monaco are not the team they were just a matter of years ago when their squad was littered with superstars. In equal measure, though, they’re still a strong unit with some serious potential. Given their position in 4th, they shouldn’t be ruling anything out just yet.
On the negative side of things, Monaco were knocked out of the Coupe de France by Rodez before being unable to beat Lorient and Marseille in exciting draws. Although, that can be forgiven somewhat given that they beat Brest to start the year and battered AC Ajaccio 7-1.
Auxerre Form GuideIt’s never easy to be lingering towards the bottom half, and especially towards the bottom three - which is where Auxerre are currently situated. They look desperately out of sorts and now that January is out of the way, they have no excuse but to find a new direction if they want to avoid dropping into Ligue 2.
A penalty shootout win over Dunkerque, followed by beating Niort 4-0, have been the only highlights of 2023 so far for Auxerre. Outside of that they’ve also lost four games without managing to score a goal against Nantes, Toulouse, Lens and, most recently, Montpellier.
Latest Team NewsLucas and Volland are both suspicious absentees with injuries being the reported reason why. Camara is back from suspension, though, in a notable boost for the hosts.
New signing Owusu isn’t likely to play with Pellenard definitely being ruled out. However, Niang should continue to play a role after returning from suspension.
Match PredictionAuxerre are going to dig their feet in here, if only to avoid the risk of yet another defeat and break that streak. In the end, though, it won’t mean a whole lot, with Monaco edging out a narrow win to keep up the pressure on the top three.
