French football is back this weekend with a full slate of fixtures across Ligue 1. There’s plenty to get excited about up and down the top flight and as we enter the last few weeks of February, it’ll be interesting to see who can start to build some momentum ahead of the next few months. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Marseille and Montpellier.
Marseille Form GuideThey may have fallen away in the title race last season, but Marseille still serve as one of the biggest clubs in French football. They have a tremendous fanbase, they have an exciting squad full of real potential, and they come across as a team with ambition. Alas, all of that will be left redundant unless they can make everything click behind the scenes - and with their management.
As Marseille continue through the season, they’ll consider their main priority to be getting European qualification. In their last outing, they experienced a small setback as they were beaten 1-0 by title challengers Brest - who had also gone down to ten men.
Montpellier Form GuideMontpellier have done some memorable things over the course of the last decade or so, establishing themselves as one of the most unpredictable clubs to watch in France. In equal measure, though, they’re coming off the back of a campaign that they’d rather forget - and we’re putting that very lightly. Now, after a poor run of form, they’re in danger of something even worse.
As Montpellier continue on through the season, they’ll consider their main priority to be avoiding a relegation battle. In their last outing, they executed really well in the final third as they put Metz to the sword, registering a 3-0 win to give themselves a massive boost of confidence.
Match PredictionThis has the potential to be an entertaining clash but we do feel like there’s a sense of trepidation in how both are playing right now. They do say the only way is up, but in this instance, we think the most likely outcome is going to be a draw.
