We’re into the final furlong now as we approach the last few games of the Ligue 1 season. French football has really come into its own since last August with a campaign full of exciting twists and turns at both ends of the table. Now, it’s all a case of seeing who can hold their nerve. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an interesting clash between Marseille and Lens.
Marseille Form GuideThey may have fallen away in the title race last season, but Marseille still serve as one of the biggest clubs in French football. They have a tremendous fanbase, they have an exciting squad full of real potential, and they come across as a team with ambition. Alas, all of that will be left redundant unless they can make everything click behind the scenes - and with their management.
Following three defeats to PSG, Lille and Benfica, Marseille got revenge on their Portuguese foes by eliminating them on penalties in their Europa League clash. Since then, they’ve been held in frustrating fashion in back to back 2-2 draws with Toulouse and Nice.
Lens Form GuideLast season, Lens truly did push PSG every step of the way in the title race and that’s a huge credit to how much hard work they’ve been putting in as a club in recent years. They were just one point away from springing an upset and for them, that’s a big takeaway. Now, though, they need to re-focus, because they’re certainly good enough to push for Europe again.
After a 1-0 win at home to Brest, Lens went four games without a win as they drew with Le Havre to run alongside disappointing defeats against Nice, Lille and Metz. They did, however, get back on the winning trail with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Clermont Foot.
Match PredictionBoth of these teams have a lot of talent to flaunt but sometimes, as a unit, they fail to live up to the hype - and that’s a shame. Alas, we’re intrigued to see how they mesh together in a clash like this, with our official prediction for this one being an entertaining draw.
