Two sides with very different prospects this season will meet this weekend as Southampton take on Manchester City in the Premier League.
Southampton Form GuideRight now, Southampton are probably the favourites for the drop out of every single team still down there in the mix. The Saints do have quality in their ranks and it’d be foolish to pretend otherwise, but the team cohesion just isn’t there on a consistent enough basis. With that being said, they did manage to get the best of the champions when they last met back in January.
After a humbling defeat to Grimsby, the Saints edged out a nice win over Leicester before earning a draw against Manchester United. Since then, though, they’ve lost to Brentford and West Ham to run alongside a dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Tottenham.
Manchester City Form GuideManchester City are still firmly in the mix when it comes to earning yet another Premier League title, and they could even be on for the treble if they play their cards right. Alas, it’s hard to ignore the troubles they’ve had this season, even if it’s still been a pretty strong campaign. Pep Guardiola knows what it takes to go all the way, but is this Arsenal side just too good?
This City side are going to keep swinging for the fences until they simply can’t any longer. Since late February they’ve been able to rattle off six straight wins with Bristol City, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig, Burnley and Liverpool all falling.
Latest Team NewsLarios and Livramento remain on the shelf alongside Bella-Kotchap here with Adams and Salisu still listed as doubtful.
Haaland will be assessed before the game to ensure he’s fit enough to feature whereas Foden is injured after having his appendix removed.
Match PredictionThere’s just no way of getting around the sheer gulf in quality that exists between these two sides right now. Southampton are plucky and they’re certainly going to be hungry underdogs given the stakes, but ultimately, it won’t be enough with Manchester City easing to a win.
