Manchester City and RB Leipzig will collide this week as both attempt to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

While there are still plenty of positives to take away from this season so far for Manchester City, it hasn’t quite been up to their usual standards. Pep Guardiola will know that better than most as they continue to chase down another Premier League title, but above all of their domestic success, the one thing they really want is to finally capture the European Cup.

After registering disappointing draws against Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig (1-1), City have stepped things up a notch in a big way. They’ve since rattled off four straight wins over Bournemouth, Bristol City, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, conceding just one goal in the process.

An uneven campaign is starting to blossom for RB Leipzig as they cement their position in the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga. It seems unlikely that they’re going to mount another title challenge but at the very least, they’re building something for the future. As the underdogs, you could make the argument that they’re coming into this one without much pressure.

After dropping a 2-1 loss at home to Union Berlin, Leipzig have since lost just one in their last five. They were beaten by Borussia Dortmund and held to a drew by Manchester City, but they’ve also managed to defeat Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach.

In a rare and positive piece of team news for City, there are no fresh injury or suspension concerns for them to worry about.

Nkunku is fighting to be fit in time for this one with Olmo, Diallo, Schlager and Gulacsi all ruled out through injury.

Leipzig proved to be really tough customers for City in the first leg and while we do believe the same will be true in the second, the hosts are going to be really, really eager to put them away and move one step closer to that elusive trophy.
