On Sunday afternoon, two teams are looking to kick-start their La Liga campaigns at San Moix as Real Mallorca hosts Rayo Vallecano.
Aguirre’s team in poor formThe home team heads into this clash on the back of a five-game run without a victory, including back-to-back defeats against Real Betis and Athletic Club.
The latter defeat against Athletic Club ended a low-scoring run for Mallorca in La Liga, as 13 of their previous 14 games had produced under 2.5 goals.
The Islanders’ questionable recent form has them looking over their shoulders nervously at the relegation zone, as they are now just three points clear of the bottom three.
Mallorca have won just two of their previous 11 home matches in La Liga. However, the recent 1-0 loss to Real Betis ended a nine-game unbeaten run for the Islanders on home soil in the Spanish top-flight.
Rayo Vallecano winless in four La Liga gamesThe visitors suffered a 2-1 home defeat last time out at Sevilla, meaning they are winless in four La Liga games, having suffered three defeats and picked up just one draw.
Defensive issues have been Rayo’s main issue of late in La Liga, as they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four matches in the Spanish top flight.
Rayo is still not in much danger of getting sucked into the relegation battle, as they are seven points clear of the bottom three.
However, they can’t continue to lose games for much longer before they get dragged into the fight for top-flight survival.
Rayo have won just one of their last six away games in La Liga. Their recent away games have been tight, low-scoring affairs, though, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their previous seven league outings.
What am I backing? On paper, this has cagey, tight encounter written all over it. I can see this one being low-scoring, so I am backing under 2.5 goals scored.
