Ligue 1 regulars Nantes and Lyon will meet this week as they battle for a place in the Coupe de France final.

Many years ago, Nantes went through a great period of success that saw them bring through a brand new golden generation. In the present day, consistency isn’t something that’s been at the forefront of their operations, especially in Ligue 1. If they can push their way into this final and actually win it, they could kickstart a big surge in momentum heading into the summer.

While they may have beaten Lens in their quarter-final at the start of March, that was the only win of note that this club has had since then. In the interim, they’ve been beaten by PSG and Reims, although they did pull off a draw against both Nice and Lyon.

From winning seven league titles in a row to barely keeping themselves in the top half, it’s safe to say that Olympique Lyonnais are not the powerhouse they once were. When looking at the field for these semi-final match-ups, however, you’d have to imagine many will see them as the favourites. From here, it’ll be a case of seeing how they are able to deal with that sort of pressure.

After beating Grenoble in their quarter-final, Lyon proceeded to pick up three straight draws against Lorient, Lille, and their semi-final opponents Nantes. Over the weekend, though, they took their game to a new level by taking out Paris Saint-Germain away from home.

Hadjam may miss out here as he continues his Ramadan fast. Elsewhere, Traore and Merlin are confirmed to be injured for Nantes.

Gusto is still out of action through a hamstring problem but aside from that, there are no major issues with Lacazette expected to lead the line.

One thing that feels like a fairly solid call is that we’re going to see a lot of action in this one. Both sides will try to start out hot, but after a feeling out period in the first half, things will really explode in the second. For that reason, we’re going to be backing a prediction of over 2.5 goals scored.
