Major League Soccer returns this weekend with a full slate of fixtures as we dive into yet another set of high profile clashes. We’re still in the early stages of the campaign but we’re starting to get a feel for how a few teams are approaching the season, even though there’s still a long way to go. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun game between Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy.
Los Angeles Form GuideIt’s tough to build consistency in a league like this one but in recent years, Los Angeles FC have been able to do just that. Between cup wins and long playoff runs, their fans have been treated to some great times. Now, it’s all about sustaining that. They still have a lot of quality in their ranks but with the Western Conference getting tougher and tougher, they need to stay focused.
LAFC opened up with a 2-1 win over Seattle before a three-game winless streak as they lost to Salt Lake and Minnesota to run alongside a 0-0 draw with Sporting KC. They did rebound with a 5-0 win over Nashville, only to drop a 3-2 loss on the road to Colorado.
LA Galaxy Form GuideOnce upon a time, LA Galaxy were the most feared team in Major League Soccer - but it’s safe to say that those days are long gone. In the present, they’re still in something of a rebuilding phase, with the big focus being on simply getting back into the playoffs. They have a few impact players here and there, but they’re still a long way off where they need and want to be.
Galaxy have managed to go six games unbeaten to kickstart the new campaign. They drew with Miami, then beat San Jose. They had two more entertaining draws (2-2 vs Nashville and 3-3 vs St Louis), before picking up two nice wins over Sporting KC and Seattle.
Match PredictionThe battle of Los Angeles is bound to be a good one this year, especially when you consider the start to the season that Galaxy have had. They aren’t going to fear their opponents one bit and in our view, that’s going to lead to an entertaining game, and over 2.5 goals scored.
