We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Lorient and Paris Saint-Germain.
Lorient Form GuideLorient looked far more composed last season than they did the year prior when they found themselves edging towards the relegation zone. Alas, this time around, they’re right back where they don’t want to be - and they’re showing no signs of vaulting themselves out of trouble. It’s still pretty tight with a handful of games to go, but things are definitely looking precarious.
Following a 2-1 win over Reims, Lorient went on a five-game winless streak. They did manage to pick up a point against Monaco in a 2-2 draw, but they also suffered four defeats courtesy of Lyon, Brest, Montpellier and, most recently, Nice.
PSG Form GuideParis Saint-Germain have been the top dogs in France for as long as we can remember but up to this point, they haven’t quite been able to translate that into success on the European stage. They still have superstar names at their disposal and Kylian Mbappe is the main man up top, but you have to wonder whether or not a rebuild is on the way sooner rather than later.
Nice’s wins over Marseille and Rennes were followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Clermont. They managed to overcome Barcelona over the course of two legs to reach the Champions League semi-finals, then went on to dominate Lyon in a comfortable 4-1 triumph.
Match PredictionLorient are in desperation mode and when that happens, you just need to throw caution to the win. Alas, the safe bet is that they’re going to try and come away with a point from this one which is the smart strategy, but we still think the likely outcome is a PSG win.
