We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Nice and Lorient.
Nice Form GuideAfter another midtable campaign last season, Nice went back to the drawing board in the summer and did everything they could to assemble a strong, competitive unit from top to bottom. Based on early evidence, it certainly seems as if they’ve achieved that goal, but the big test will come in the weeks ahead as they attempt to claw back up into contention.
Following losses to Toulouse, Montpellier and PSG. They bounced back with a 3-1 win over Lens before a 2-1 defeat at home to Nantes. In their most recent outing, they battled Reims, managing a 0-0 draw on the road.
Lorient Form GuideLorient looked far more composed last season than they did the year prior when they found themselves edging towards the relegation zone. Alas, this time around, they’re right back where they don’t want to be - and they’re showing no signs of vaulting themselves out of trouble. It’s still pretty tight with a handful of games to go, but things are definitely looking precarious.
Lorient’s one and only win across their last six games came against Rennes, in a game they won 2-1. Outside of that they’ve been able to draw 2-2 with Monaco to run alongside defeats courtesy of Nantes, Lyon, Brest and, last weekend, Montpellier.
Match PredictionLorient are going to be pretty desperate to pick up maximum points here, but they’re coming up against a Nice side that are pretty solid at the back. This is going to be a technical affair and in our view, the most likely outcome is under 2.5 goals scored between the two teams.
