We have a host of Ligue One fixtures to get excited about this weekend as we prepare to enter the month of March. There is thrilling action across French football’s top tier for fans to consume and as we enter the final third of the campaign, everything is still to play for at both ends of the table. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an interesting clash between Reims and Lille.
Reims Form GuideFollowing on from a top six finish a few years back, Reims have spent a lot of time lingering around mid-table. They have the ability to spring an upset from time to time but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing to the overall structure of the squad, although it must be said that Will Still has been able to have a really strong impact within the club and he deserves praise for his efforts.
Reims went down to ten men against Le Havre but in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t do a whole lot to impact the result. They were calm and composed for long spells, earning the result they really wanted with a nice 2-1 win.
Lille Form GuideWe are a few years removed from the heroics of Lille winning Ligue One and ever since then, they haven’t quite been able to sustain the momentum they built for themselves. That doesn’t mean they haven’t got a good base or a good squad - far from it. What it does mean, however, is that they need to start thinking outside of the box if they want to compete with the big boys.
For whatever reason, Lille just couldn’t get going against Toulouse. They were beaten 3-1 and while one game of football isn’t going to define their entire season, it’s certainly a reason to be concerned as they continue on with the season.
Match PredictionReims and Lille are both full of quality from head to toe and if we’re lucky, that’ll manifest into a really engaging and entertaining game of football. We believe they’ll trade blows for the majority of the match and in terms of a prediction, we’re going to shoot for over 2.5 goals scored.
