French football’s top tier is back this week as we prepare for another set of electric Ligue One fixtures. We’re entering the month of February and while that may mean we’re still in the midst of the winter blues, the action on the pitch gives us plenty of cause for excitement. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Lille.
PSG Form GuideParis Saint-Germain have been the top dogs in France for as long as we can remember but up to this point, they haven’t quite been able to translate that into success on the European stage. They still have superstar names at their disposal and Kylian Mbappe is the main man up top, but you have to wonder whether or not a rebuild is on the way sooner rather than later.
PSG had most of the possession on the road against Strasbourg last Friday but they still had to scratch and claw for a 2-1 win in what proved to be quite the battle.
Lille Form GuideWe are a few years removed from the heroics of Lille winning Ligue One and ever since then, they haven’t quite been able to sustain the momentum they built for themselves. That doesn’t mean they haven’t got a good base or a good squad - far from it. What it does mean, however, is that they need to start thinking outside of the box if they want to compete with the big boys.
Lille came sprinting out of the box in their home clash with Clermont Foot last weekend. They hit four goals in the first half, eventually cruising their way to a 4-0 win.
Match PredictionPSG are quite clearly the best team in French football, whereas Lille are slowly but surely building themselves back up to a position of power. In a game like this, we’re expecting some real fireworks, with our formal prediction being that over 2.5 goals will be scored.
