Plymouth vs Leicester Prediction (12.04.2024)

The Championship weekend kicks off with a huge game involving teams at both the top and bottom of the table. Plymouth are the hosts, outside of the relegation zone but still close to danger and they welcome Leicester, top of the table, and with a game in hand on the two sides chasing them.

Just when Plymouth needed something, they've taken a win and a draw from their last two games. To show how close things are, despite that, they are still just two points clear of Sheffield Wednesday, and three clear of Birmingham, who are both in the bottom three. But it's something to build on, and will give the fans hope as we have four games to go in the season.

During midweek, they drew 1-1 at home to QPR, though it was a game that Plymouth didn't really play too well in, and probably deserved nothing from. Before that, last Friday they won 1-0 away at the already relegated Rotherham, grinding out what could be three massive points in their quest for safety.

All three teams in the chase for automatic promotion will have seen the midweek fixtures as a massive missed opportunity. Leicester lost, while Ipswich and Leeds both drew. That leaves Leicester on top with 88 points, Ipswich second on the same total and Leeds third on 87. Leicester have a game in hand, so five games left, which could turn out to be crucial on the run in.

Leicester's defeat was a 1-0 away loss at Millwall, a side who are just ahead of Plymouth in the standings. Before that, they won two in a row, both games at home, beating Birmingham 2-1 and Norwich 3-1, but it is fair to say that Leicester, like the others in the promotion race, are feeling the pressure on them right now.

A massive game at both ends of the table to kick off the Championship weekend in style. Plymouth have fared better in their last two games, but I think this will be a step too far. Although not at their best right now, Leicester still have a lot of quality, and I am taking them to get a big three points here.
