Southampton - Ipswich Tip 19-09-2023

The Championship came back on Saturday and we're straight back at it again with a full midweek round of fixtures to enjoy, six being played on Tuesday night and six to be played on Wednesday night. One of the ties of the round, with added intrigue and importance, is Southampton hosting Ipswich, which should be a cracker.

Three wins and a draw from their opening four games, Southampton started life in the second tier very well, and looked set for a push at returning to the Premier League at the first attempt. But they've lost their last two games, one before and one after the international break, so there is a different feel about them now.

They've been big losses too, they lost 5-0 at Sunderland before the international break, and came back to a 4-2 loss at home to Leicester on Friday night. This is a team that needs a quick turnaround, but they come up against a rock solid Ipswich outfit here, so that's not going to be easy.

up from League One last season, but you wouldn't know that from watching Ipswich, they've started brilliantly, I think they're doing great and although I thought they would go well, it's still an overachievement based on what I thought. After the weekend they are in 3rd position, with five wins from six games so far.

Their only loss came to Leeds, a wild game they were beaten 4-3, but have been perfect elsewhere and they come here on the back of a 1-0 away win at Sheffield Wednesday. They can play away from home, with narrow wins in all three away games so far, 2-1 at Sunderland and then 1-0 at QPR to go alongside their other 1-0 success at Sheffield Wednesday.

A big game for Southampton, who need to turn the corner soon, but I am going with the value here and choosing an Ipswich win. I like how they've started, away from home they are strong, I'll take them at nice odds to win this one.
