We’re into the semi-finals of the Leagues Cup as four teams from across Major League Soccer and Liga MX remain in the race to win the trophy. We’ve already seen a whole lot of crazy things unfold across the last few weeks, and we expect that to continue as Philadelphia Union prepare to collide with Inter Miami.
Philadelphia Form GuideAfter the utter heartbreak of missing out on MLS Cup glory by a last minute equaliser, followed by a penalty shootout loss, Philadelphia could be forgiven for feeling sorry for themselves. Instead, though, they’ve opted to pick themselves back up and go again. They may not be the favourites in the East as they have been in the past, but you can bet they’re going to make some real noise.
Philadelphia impressed in the group stage in a big way, beating Tijuana 3-1 before a dominant 5-1 win over Queretaro. They needed penalties to get past DC United and NY Red Bulls in the knockouts, before meeting Queretaro once again in the quarters - winning 2-1.
Miami Form GuideThe vibe around Inter Miami has completely changed, and there’s an argument to be made that it’s because of one man - Lionel Messi. He seems to have completely reinvigorated the franchise and while there is, of course, no guarantee that it’ll last once the MLS season gets back underway, it’s the kind of boost that they sorely needed to give the club a more confident outlook.
Miami have looked like a team possessed across the last few weeks. They beat Cruz Azul and Atlanta in the group stage, Orlando 3-1 in the round of 32, Dallas on penalties after a 4-4 classic, and then Charlotte 4-0 in a one-sided demolition.
Match PredictionPhilly are a fun team to watch and they’re going to bring the heat in a game like this - however, we aren’t so sure they’ll be able to stack up against the momentum of their opponents. They are on the kind of run we’ve never seen from them before, and for that reason, we’re backing a Miami win.
