The Major League Soccer season is beginning to get into a real rhythm as all clubs involved find their feet and start to build some momentum. There are plenty of reasons to believe this could be the best MLS campaign yet, with teams across North America getting better and better. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fascinating encounter between New England Revolution and Inter Miami.
New England Form GuideAt one point, it seemed as if New England Revolution would be one of the highest ranked teams in the Eastern Conference - and perhaps the entire league. Unfortunately for them, they somewhat ran out of steam down the stretch, eventually finishing 5th. In the first round of the playoffs, they were quickly dispatched in consecutive games by Philadelphia.
After losing to Atlanta and Cincinnati, New England stemmed the flow slightly with a 1-1 draw against Chicago. They went on to defeat Charlotte 1-0 at home, before dropping two more defeats - this time to New York and Toronto.
Miami Form GuideInter Miami, in totality, didn’t have a great campaign last year - but now, everything has changed. The main difference has been the introduction of Lionel Messi, which has given the franchise new life in more ways than one. Now, we’re left to wait and see whether or not the presence of the king can help guide them to an elusive MLS Cup success.
Following a 3-1 win over DC United, Miami suffered a shock 4-0 loss to NY Red Bulls. They then managed to get a point in draws with New York and Colorado, before finally getting back to winning ways with triumphs over Kansas City and Nashville.
Match PredictionThere’s a clear gulf in quality between these two sides and that much somewhat goes without saying. It’ll be interesting to see how both sides navigate that but, in truth, there’s only one way we can see this game going - and that is a comfortable Inter Miami win.
