Inter Miami vs Colorado Rapids Prediction (07.04.2024)

Major League Soccer returns this weekend with a full slate of fixtures as we dive into yet another set of high profile clashes. We’re still in the early stages of the campaign but we’re starting to get a feel for how a few teams are approaching the season, even though there’s still a long way to go. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun game between Inter Miami and Colorado Rapids.

Inter Miami, in totality, didn’t have a great campaign last year - but now, everything has changed. The main difference has been the introduction of Lionel Messi, which has given the franchise new life in more ways than one. Now, we’re left to wait and see whether or not the presence of the king can help guide them to an elusive MLS Cup success.

After a 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy, Miami dominated Orlando in an emphatic 5-0 battering. They have, however, been more inconsistent since then. They’ve lost to Montreal and NY Red Bulls, beaten DC United 3-1, and been held to a 1-1 draw at home by New York City.

Last season, the wooden spoon in the West went to Colorado. The Rapids only managed to win five games all season long and while they do have a few highlight reel players to brag about, that doesn’t mean much when you have no consistency or general ideology to speak of. They have a lot of work to do, and that much is an understatement.

So far this season, Colorado have been a middle of the road team - two wins, two draws, two losses. They beat Salt Lake and Los Angeles, drew with Seattle and Nashville,and suffered defeats to Houston and Portland.

In our view, Miami have the clear advantage in this game and they’re going to be the likely winners. At the same time, it feels like Colorado should be capable of standing up to them defensively in parts of the pitch. Therefore, we’re going to predict under 2.5 goals scored.
