The UEFA Champions League is back in our lives this week as we get ready for the second leg of the round of 16 ties. While there are certainly favourites amongst the pack, every single team left in the running will believe they’re in with a chance of lifting that famous trophy. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fascinating encounter between Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

They are so often seen as the younger brother to Barcelona and Real Madrid but on more than one occasion across the last decade, Atletico Madrid have made Spain - and Europe - their own. They still have a strong squad and an inner belief that they can spring a few upsets, which is why it’s always hard to count them out in the Champions League.

In the first leg of their round of 16 tie, Inter were largely on top against Atletico. In the end, it was a 79th minute winner from Marko Arnautovic that gave the Italian side a first leg advantage.

Last year, Inter Milan came up short in their attempt to win the Champions League as they lost in the final to Manchester City. Alas, they’ve been able to dust themselves off and get right back to work, looking as solid as ever both in Serie A and in Europe. It’ll be tough for them to go all the way again, but we certainly shouldn’t be overlooking their ability to do so.
