It’s time for another international break as the countdown to this summer’s UEFA Euro 2024 tournament truly begins. Some nations are gearing up for a big run, whereas others didn’t make the cut and simply want to rebuild ahead of World Cup qualifying. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a pretty entertaining encounter between Hungary and Turkey.
Hungary Form GuideHistorically speaking, Hungary have enjoyed some truly memorable moments in their international history - and in recent times, they’ve done well to qualify for the last two editions of the European Championships. They reached the round of 16 back in 2016, and even though they didn’t get out of the group stage in 2021, they fought as hard as they could throughout and impressed the masses.
Hungary are riding a nice run of unbeaten form right now and haven’t lost in their last six outings. They’ve picked up two wins over Serbia and one over Montenegro, and they’ve been held to a point by Czech Republic, Lithuania and Bulgaria.
Turkey Form GuideIn the last 16 World Cups, Turkey have only qualified for the final tournament once - finishing in third place. In the Euros, however, they tend to have a bit more luck, having qualified for three of the last four editions. They did only manage to reach the group stage in the last two but at the very least, there’s a clear direction for them as a squad, especially with one of the most intimidating fanbases in world football.
Following a 1-1 draw with Armenia and a 4-2 loss to Japan, Turkey bounced back with wins over Croatia, Latvia and Germany. In their most recent outing, they drew on the road to Wales, taking their current unbeaten run up to four.
Match PredictionBoth of these teams will be eager to make a statement heading into the summer but it remains to be seen how well they’re going to cope with the pressure on their shoulders. We do think this will be an entertaining clash, though, with our prediction being over 2.5 goals scored.
