Hull City vs Ipswich Prediction (27.04.2024)

Hull host Ipswich on Saturday evening, a huge game for both in the Championship. Hull are in 7th, trying to get in the playoffs and are three points behind both West Brom and Norwich with two games to go. Ipswich are 3rd, aiming for the top two with three games to play. It couldn't get much bigger than this, a huge night for both clubs.

Hull are continuing to push hard, and thanks to a dip in form from West Brom, have two teams to aim for. Both them and Norwich are three ahead of Hull, but both play before Hull, so they will know what they need to do before this game. The one disadvantage for Hull is goal difference, which is much worse than the two they are chasing.

But Hull do come here on the back of a win, and looking further back, a five game unbeaten run. They won 3-2 at Coventry on Wednesday, other recent wins have come at home to QPR 3-0 and away at Cardiff 3-1. They've drawn the other two games in this run of five unbeaten, a 0-0 away draw at Watford and a 2-2 home draw with Middlesbrough.

Ipswich will be third when this game kicks off, but how far behind they are from the top two will depend on other results. Ipswich are the team with a game in hand, have three left compared to two for the other teams, and as we begin the weekend, they are one point behind Leeds, so win all three games and Ipswich are going up.

Of course, it's more complex than that, Ipswich are feeling the pressure and haven't won any of their last three games. They drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough last time out, which was on April 13th, so they've had a rest, and drew to Watford before that, while they lost at Norwich near the start of the month.

Given the nerves are hitting Ipswich at the wrong time, I think there is good value in a win for Hull here. They're a big price to do this at home, will have backing from the fans, and continue in good form as they push for the playoffs.
