Georgia vs Portugal Prediction (26.06.2024)

The group stage of UEFA Euro 2024 is coming to an end as we approach the final set of fixtures before reaching the knockouts. There are still plenty of things to iron out in every single group, and given some of the chaos we’ve seen so far, we’re expecting a few more twists and turns along the way. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the intriguing clash between Georgia and Portugal.

For Georgia, everything that’s happening right now must feel like a dream. They’ve worked incredibly hard to finally qualify for a big tournament, and they’ve done it. Everything from this point forward will be a bonus but if they can reignite that determination and passion they showed in qualification, then who knows what they could achieve in the next few weeks.

Georgia pushed Turkey all the way in their opener before ultimately falling victim to a late counter attack goal to seal a 3-1 defeat. When going against Czech Republic, though, they were far more composed, and they were great value for their 1-1 draw.

Portugal managed to shock a lot of people by becoming European champions back in 2016. Unfortunately, they haven’t quite been able to build on that - but things are looking good right now. This is arguably the best golden generation they’ve had since Cristiano Ronaldo first rose to prominence two decades ago, and now is the chance to seize their opportunity, especially given their goalscoring prowess.

A dramatic late goal allowed Portugal to come away with a 2-1 with against Czech Republic in a game that, for a long time, seemed to be getting away from them. Then, when playing host to Turkey, they looked far more comfortable as they eased their way to a 3-0 win.

Georgia are a fascinating team to watch and we expect them to put forward another really good showing here, especially if the Portuguese don’t play their very best starting XI, which is a possibility. Either way, though, we can’t see anything other than a Portugal win.
