Major League Soccer returns this weekend with a full slate of fixtures as we dive into yet another set of high profile clashes. We’re still in the early stages of the campaign but we’re starting to get a feel for how a few teams are approaching the season, even though there’s still a long way to go. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun game between CF Montreal and FC Cincinnati.
Montreal Form GuideThe city of Montreal flies under the radar when it comes to picking out passionate fanbases. The teams they have behind them are ones built on the shoulders of giants, and the same goes for CF Montreal. They aren’t the biggest and they aren’t the baddest but we do think they’ve got potential to grow, especially in a conference that looks set to be wide open once again.
After a 0-0 draw with Orlando, Montreal rattled off two big wins over Dallas and Miami. Since then, however, they haven’t quite been at the races, losing 4-3 to Chicago, 1-0 to DC and, shockingly, 5-0 to Seattle.
Cincinnati Form GuideCincinnati made quite the splash last season as they won the Supporters’ Shield, which is handed out to the club with the best regular season record. They did so by accumulating 69 points but in the playoffs, they couldn’t make it all the way. They did get through NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia, only to fall short to Columbus in the conference finals.
Cincinnati did well to beat Chicago, New England and New York at the start of the season, alongside a 0-0 draw with DC. They proceeded to draw 1-1 with Charlotte before a narrow 2-1 defeat to NY Red Bulls.
Match PredictionMontreal are a solid side and we do think they’re going to make a run for the playoffs between now and the end of the season. On the flip side, they’re dealing with a team that is really starting to find its rhythm. Therefore, we’re going to go ahead and predict a Cincinnati victory.
